Regulated verticals — iGaming above all — carry a content penalty that a clean reputation does not erase. Promotional gambling copy, bonus offers and deposit incentives sit in categories filters treat as high-risk, and some corporate and consumer environments block the category outright. So the plan is different in two ways: you separate aggressively, and you build the ramp out of mail players actually asked for rather than out of promotions.
Separate by stream and by market
| Stream | Domain |
|---|---|
| Account and transactional (verification, withdrawals, security) | its own domain or mail. subdomain, never shared with promos |
| Promotional and bonus campaigns | a separate sending domain |
| Reactivation and win-back | a separate domain again, because it is the riskiest stream |
| Per jurisdiction | separate domains where licensing and consent rules differ |
The reason transactional mail gets its own domain here is sharper than in other industries: a withdrawal confirmation that lands in Junk is a support ticket and a trust problem, and promotional complaint rates in this vertical are high enough to put it there. Keeping jurisdictions separate matters because a compliance failure in one market should not take your mail down in another, and because consent standards genuinely differ.
Consent is a deliverability control, not just a legal one
In a vertical where self-exclusion registers exist, mailing someone who opted out is a regulatory event. Practically:
- Keep auditable opt-in records with timestamp, source and the exact wording consented to.
- Honour unsubscribes and self-exclusion immediately and globally across every domain and every market, not per-brand.
- Suppress on first complaint, permanently.
- Include one-click unsubscribe headers on bulk mail — Gmail requires them of bulk senders, and their absence turns unsubscribes into spam reports.
- Keep age and jurisdiction gating out of the email body and behind the login, so your mail does not read as an unsolicited offer.
Build the ramp from mail players wanted
- Weeks 1–2: transactional only. Verifications, password resets, withdrawal confirmations. High engagement, near-zero complaints, exactly the history you want attached to the domain.
- Weeks 3–4: lifecycle mail to recently active players. Statements, responsible-play notices, account updates. Low promotional density.
- Weeks 5–6: promotional mail to the most recently engaged segment only, increasing roughly 30% every two or three days while bounces stay under 1% and complaints stay near zero.
- After that: dormant segments in small batches, from the reactivation domain, with written stop conditions. The never-engaged segment is not worth the risk; recycled spam traps live there.
Hold volume flat on any day a provider's placement slips. Do not drop to zero, because gaps reset the pattern.
Content choices that decide the outcome
Promotional density is the variable you control. Mail that is one bonus offer in a wall of images, with a shortened link and urgency in the subject, will be filtered on content alone from a domain with a perfect history. Mail with real text, a single clear action, a plain-text alternative, your own tracking subdomain rather than a shared shortener, and responsible-gambling messaging present rather than buried, performs materially better. Check your link domains against Spamhaus DBL and SURBL too — a listed redirect domain fails the message regardless of your standing.
Measure, because this vertical gets little telemetry
Seed mailboxes are the main instrument: per-provider placement across Gmail, Microsoft 365 and Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and the regional providers in your licensed markets. Add Gmail spam rate from Postmaster Tools, which must stay under 0.3% and ideally under 0.1%. Note that Google retired the domain and IP reputation charts, so there is no reputation grade to report. And remember Gmail's Promotions tab carries the INBOX label — for promotional gambling mail, Promotions is where a lot of it lands, so label-derived placement numbers in this vertical are especially optimistic.
What not to do
Do not send promotional mail from the domain that carries withdrawals and verifications. Do not rotate through dozens of near-identical domains to dilute complaints; you end up with many unwarmed domains, no accumulated standing, and a pattern filters recognise. Do not mail a purchased or affiliate-supplied list — in this vertical that is both a trap risk and a compliance exposure. Do not re-mail players who ignored a reactivation message; they answered. Do not use deposit urgency as a subject-line hook on cold or dormant segments.
And do not buy engagement to make the numbers survivable. Pools of controlled mailboxes manufacturing opens, clicks and replies are precisely what Validity's Heatwave blocklist, launched 3 September 2026, was built to catch; it lists domains rather than IPs, launched with over a million domains, feeds live filtering, and publishes no thresholds — so no tool, including ours, can promise your domain exemption. Volume ramping on mail players asked for, and engagement they actually gave you, are the defensible path.
When a domain is already damaged
Stop promotional sending entirely, keep transactional flowing from its separate domain, suppress the segment that caused it, and rebuild to recently active players only over two to three weeks. If a listing appeared, use that list's own free review path after the cause is genuinely fixed — a rejected request makes the next one slower. Budget weeks, and plan campaigns around that rather than against it.
MailPilot covers the sending and measurement side: warm-up over OAuth for Gmail and Outlook or SMTP/IMAP for Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark and custom relays, unlimited mailboxes on every plan so you can run separate domains per stream and market, SPF/DKIM/DMARC checks per domain, real per-provider inbox placement, and per-mailbox reputation recorded daily.
